OVERVIEW
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, commonly known as e-waste. It refers to any discarded item that has a plug, battery, or electrical cable.
What WEEE Includes
WEEE covers a wide variety of everyday items and industrial goods, including:
- Large appliances: Refrigerators, washing machines, and cookers.
- Small appliances: Toasters, kettles, and irons.
- IT and communication devices: Computers, phones, and tablets.
- Consumer electronics: Televisions, radios, and gaming consoles.
- Tools and toys: Power drills, lawnmowers, and electronic toys.
Why WEEE Matters
- Environmental safety: Old electronics often contain harmful materials like lead, mercury, and cadmium that can leak into soil and water if sent to landfills.
- Resource recovery: Electronics hold valuable and rare materials such as gold, copper, and critical raw metals that can be recycled and reused.
- Regulations: Laws hold manufacturers and retailers responsible for funding the proper collection and recycling of these goods.
PLASMA MUSIC LIMITED AND WEEE
With the exception of two items (as listed below), Plasma Music Limited designs and manufacturers components and sub-assemblies for vintage synthesisers and guitar amps.
The two items sold by Plasma Music Limited that are not classified as components or sub-assemblies are as follows:
Components and sub-assemblies are not considered Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) on their own and are exempt from producer registration and reporting obligations under both the UK WEEE Regulations and the EU WEEE Directive.
However, they are governed heavily by WEEE at two critical points: when they are part of a discarded final product and during the eco-design phase where manufacturers must provide recycling instructions.
The components and sub-assemblies that are supplied by Plasma Music Limited are intended to extend the useful life of the respective host machines, thereby preventing them being discarded prematurely.
Please note the following:
- Plasma Music Limited is NOT registered for WEEE in the UK or the EU.
- Plasma Music Limited is in the process of applying for WEEE registration in the UK, specifically for the two products listed above.
